INTRODUCTION FROM MICHAEL'S 2010 RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA AREA REAL ESTATE GUIDE
Stacey and I moved to Raleigh from Rochester, New York in 1995, and we did our homework. We researched cities across the United States from Seattle to Austin and Boston to Savannah. Our top priorities were lots of sunshine (sorry, Seattle), economic opportunity, and a great place to settle down and start a family. We narrowed it down to Atlanta, Charlotte, Greensboro (NC), and the Raleigh area. After more research, we decided Atlanta was too busy and developed. Then a friend told us the Charlotte business community was less open to "outsiders", compared to other areas of North Carolina. That left Greensboro and Raleigh. We flew south to see North Carolina for the first time and visit our two remaining choices. It turned out Greensboro was not economically diversified and developed enough for us. At last, we visited Raleigh, saw all the trees and nice neighborhoods, took a walk around one of the several lakes, and felt at home. After several more job-hunting trips we made the move, and we hope to stay forever. Since then our family has grown by two children and a dog, and both of our parents moved to the area. If you are thinking about moving to the Raleigh area, I hope this book helps you make a good decision.
